Polk Middle made a pair of first-half goals stand Monday, taking a 2-1 victory at Hendersonville Middle in Blue Ridge Conference boys soccer action.
The Bearcats (2-7) opened a 1-0 lead with a goal in the seventh minute, but Polk Middle responded in the 12th minute as Ross Dow scored on an assist from Erik Pena.
Dow then tallied again two minutes later on a pass from Brennan Oates.
The Wolverines survived a Hendersonville shot off the crossbar in the final seconds of the first half, then kept the Bearcats at bay throughout the second half, including a corner kick in the 47th minute.
“It was an intense match,” said Polk Middle head coach Lennox Charles. “They put a lot of pressure on us.”
Polk Middle is back in action on Wednesday, traveling to Flat Rock Middle.
