Wolverines overwhelm Tri-County Early College in 9-0 romp

Finishing was not a problem Thursday for Polk County.

The Wolverines dominated visiting Tri-County Early College, finding the net often in a 9-0 non-conference victory in G.M. Tennant Stadium.

Polk County head coach George Alley has talked througout the preseason and early matches of the Wolverines’ struggles with putting shots in the net. Such was not the case Thursday.

Thomas Varnadore scored three goals and was one of seven players to tally as the Wolverines (2-1) ended the match with 11 minutes remaining by mercy rule, defender Will Garrison drilling a drive from near the top of the penalty area for the final goal.

Nate Martinez, Manny Albarran, Tanner Osborn, Tommy Jackson and Ross Dow joined Varnadore and Garrison with goals. Brinson Ashworth had a pair of assists, with Varnadore and Osborn each adding one.

The Wolverines return to action on Monday, traveling to face North Carolina School of Science and Math Morganton in a 6 p.m. match.
