Polk County Middle delivered a solid defensive performance Wednesday en route to a 2-0 victory over Hendersonville Middle in a Blue Ridge Conference boys soccer match at Utz Field.
The Wolverines (2-1-1) posted their first shutout of the season, led by goalkeeper Charlie Wagoner, in rebounding from Tuesday’s 1-0 loss at Apple Valley.
Tallis Metcalf tallied first for Polk Middle late in the first half after a Hendersonville hand ball in the penalty area following a Wolverine corner kick. Metcalf took the penalty and drilled a left-footed drive into the corner of net to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead.
Metcalf also provided the second goal early in the second half, taking a pass from Erik Pena and striking a shot that was stopped, but deflected back to Metcalf, who put home the rebound.
Wagoner and the Polk Middle back line kept the two-goal lead intact until the final whistle.
Polk Middle is back in action on Monday, returning to Utz Field to host Flat Rock Middle in a 4:30 p.m. game.
