Polk County’s high-powered offense was on full display Thursday as the Wolverines defeated West Henderson 5-2 in a non-conference match in Mills River.

The Wolverines (1-0-0) notched a perfect start to the season with an impressive attacking performance that saw three different players contribute to the scoring.

After a tightly contested opening half, Blake Anderson broke the deadlock in the final five minutes before intermission, converting a well-placed assist from David Alvarez to give Polk County a 1-0 advantage.

The Wolverines found their attacking rhythm in the second half, exploding for three goals in a decisive 15-minute span. Cooper Meyer started the scoring burst, finishing off a 2-on-1 opportunity with an assist from Wyatt Highsmith. Tanner Osborn then took center stage, netting consecutive goals off feeds from Highsmith and Brennan Oates to extend Polk’s lead.

Meyer would add his second goal of the match to complete the scoring for the Wolverines.

“Our back line was rock solid tonight,” Polk County head coach George Alley said, specifically praising the defensive unit of Will Garrison, David Alvarez, Ross Dow and Mason Hudson.

The Wolverines will be back in action on Monday, traveling to East Rutherford for a non-conference match.
