Two-match homestand to kick off Polk boys soccer season

Polk County will open the most unusual of boys soccer seasons in late January at home.

The Wolverines are slated to host Smoky Mountain on January 27 to begin its delayed 2020 season. The North Carolina High School Athletic Association postponed the typical fall schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Teams are allowed to schedule 14 regular-season games; Polk County at present has 13 games, though head coach Josh Trejo is hoping to add another game to the slate.

The Wolverines, who finished 19-3 last season, will be looking to defend their Western Highlands Conference schedule. Polk will host Hendersonville and travel to Brevard before beginning WHC play on Feb. 8 at home against Madison.

The regular season is set to end March 10 with a home game agsinst Moountain Heritage. Playoff action would begin March 16.
