Smoky Mountain holds off late Polk Middle rally for 2-1 win

1 min read

Smoky Mountain broke a scoreless halftime tie with a pair of goals, then held off a late Polk County Middle rally Monday to hand the Wolverines a 2-1 defeat in Blue Ridge Conference soccer action in Sylva.

The Mustangs scored both goals in the opening 12 minutes of the second half. The Wolverines (1-1) finally broke through in the final two minutes as Brennan Oates found the net, but Polk was unable to get the equalizer before the final whistle.

“We did not do a good job of passing the ball until the last 15 minutes of the match,” said Polk Middle head coach Lennox Charles. “They were aggressive and did a good job of putting pressure on our midfield and defense.”
