Patton tallied a pair of second-half goals Monday to earn a 3-2 victory over Polk County in Mountain Foothills 7 Conference boys soccer action in Morganton.
The Panthers (5-1-1, 1-0) held a 1-0 lead at the half as the Wolverines (0-3-1, 0-1) failed to convert on a couple of scoring chances in the first 40 minutes. Patton then extended the lead to 2-0 early in the second period.
Polk County responded as Elliott Whiteside fired a line drive that ricocheted off teammate Cole Pereira and into goal, only to see Patton score again minutes later for a 3-1 lead.

The Wolverines answered once again as Whiteside found the back of the net off a free ball following a corner kick, but that would be it for Polk’s offense.
“I was very proud of us for not quitting,” said Polk County head coach Josh Trejo. “It was a very solid match.”
Greyson Ball had 11 saves for Polk County.
The Wolverines continue MF7 play on Wednesday as Hendersonville visits G.M. Tennant Stadium for a 6 p.m. battle that will also be shown live on the NFHS Network.
