2 min read

Polk County took control with three first-half goals Wednesday and rolled to a 4-0 Western Highlands Conference victory over Mountain Heritage in Burnsville.

Brady Carroll opened the scoring in the 15th minute. A Polk corner kick found Carroll charging deep into the penalty area, and he leaped to knock the cross into the net for a 1-0 lead.

The Wolverines doubled the advantage in the 26th minute. Luke Garrison worked free from a defender along the right sideline, drove deep into the corner and delivered a cross to Brennan Oates, who finished from point-blank range.

Oates struck again just before halftime. He was fouled on a breakaway inside the penalty area in the 39th minute, then converted the ensuing penalty kick with a low shot into the left side of the net to send Polk into the break leading 3-0.

Polk added its final goal in the 67th minute on another set piece. Ross Dow launched a free kick from roughly 55 yards into the penalty area, where Jackson Blotner charged onto the ball and headed it home from about eight yards.

The shutout moved Polk County to 7-1-1 overall and 2-0-1 in Western Highlands Conference play. Mountain Heritage fell to 0-6-2, 0-1-1.

The Wolverines return home Thursday to face East Rutherford in a nonconference match.
