Polk County kept Chase under pressure Thursday.

Eventually, the goals came from almost everywhere.

Brennan Oates and Luke Garrison each scored twice, Grayson Meyer and Jared Contreras added goals and the Wolverines rolled to a 6-0 victory in the second round of the state 3A boys soccer playoffs at G.M. Tennant Stadium.

“That was a good team win,” Polk County head coach George Alley said. “We put them under a lot of pressure. Brennan is finding his groove offensively.”

Polk grabbed the lead in the 12th minute after an impressive buildup from Garrison. Working down the left wing, Garrison dribbled past two defenders, fought through contact from a third and slipped a pass around another defender to Oates, who finished from the left side.

The Wolverines continued threatening and doubled the lead in the 23rd minute. A Tallis Metcalf corner kick bounced around the penalty area until Meyer gained control and rifled a shot home from close range.

Polk made it 3-0 in the 37th minute with a move that began at the other end of the field. Goalkeeper Charlie Wagoner rolled an outlet pass to Hunter Ledford, who raced down the right sideline deep into Chase territory before centering to Oates. His shot was deflected, but Garrison collected the rebound and scored.

Garrison struck again six minutes into the second half, once more cleaning up a deflection after Oates drove a hard shot from near the top of the penalty area.

Oates added his second goal in the 67th minute. Racing past the Chase defense down the right side to collect a pass, Oates chipped the ball over the goalkeeper and into the left side of the net.

Contreras completed the scoring in the 74th minute, converting off a corner kick.

Chase finished its season at 12-10-1.

The victory improved Polk County to 18-3-1 and extended the Wolverines’ shutout streak to seven matches.

Polk will remain home for Monday’s third-round matchup with Lincolnton (16-7-3), which advanced with a 1-0 victory over Piedmont Community Charter. The teams met Oct. 19 at G.M. Tennant Stadium, with Polk earning a 2-0 win.
