Polk County remained unbeaten on the season Monday, defeating Hendersonville 3-1 in a Western Highlands Conference match at Dietz Field.
The Wolverines improved to 10-0-2 overall and 5-0 in conference play, extending their season-opening unbeaten streak to 12 games. Hendersonville fell to 5-7-1 overall and 3-2 in WHC play with the loss.
Brennan Oates sparked Polk County’s attack throughout the match, scoring the opening goal and drawing two penalty kicks that proved crucial in securing the victory.

The Wolverines struck first at 6:53 when Blake Anderson intercepted a pass around midfield and delivered a perfectly weighted ball down the sideline to Oates, who was slashing toward goal. Oates collected the pass in stride and calmly chipped the ball over the oncoming Hendersonville goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead.
Polk County doubled its advantage at 28:33 of the second half when Cooper Meyer converted from the penalty spot. Oates drew the foul after a challenge from a Hendersonville defender inside the box.
The match’s complexion changed at 14:34 when Hendersonville pulled within 2-1 after a scramble in Polk County’s penalty area. The goal energized the home side and sparked a contentious stretch of play that saw yellow cards issued to players on both sides. The Wolverines’ defense, however, weathered the pressure and turned away multiple scoring chances.
Meyer sealed the victory with his second penalty kick conversion at 5:39, again set up by Oates. Mason Hudson sent a pass to Oates as he made another dangerous run to the corner. The Hendersonville goalkeeper was issued a red card for a challenge at the edge of the box, leaving the hosts to finish the match a man down.
The victory sets up a critical conference showdown for Polk County, which hosts Owen on Wednesday in a battle of the Western Highlands Conference’s top two teams.
