Polk County Middle’s boys soccer team opened its 2019 season on Tuesday with a 2-1 victory at Asheville Christian Academy.
The Lions grabbed a 1-0 lead shortly ater the midpoint of the first hald, but Polk Middle answered just before the intermission as Topher Pearson tallied on a penalty kick.
The teams battled through a scoreless second half and into overtime before Eno Baker notched the game-winning goal in the 63rd minute with a shot from the right side of the field.
“We struggled, but the players did not lack effort and it got us through,” said Polk Middle head coach Lennox Charles.
Polk County is slated to make its home debut on Wednesday, hosting Hendersonville at 4:30 p.m.
