Polk Middle scores late to top Brevard Middle

1 min read

Polk County Middle scored in the final 10 minutes Wednesday to hand Brevard Middle a 3-2 defeat in a Blue Ridge Conference boys soccer match at Utz Field.

The Wolverines (7-1) held a 2-1 halftime lead, but the Blue Devils (1-4) scored early in the half to deadlock the match. It remained that way until the 52nd minute, when a Brennan Oates drive into the penalty area was deflected, with Owen Justice corraling the loose ball and scoring from six yards out.

A deflection of an Oates shot also led to Polk’s first goal, with Wells Highsmith poking in the free ball to put the Wolverines up 1-0. Brevard answered two minutes later, but Callaway Cameron returned the lead to Polk Middle, heading in an Oates corner kick in the 19th minute.
