Polk Middle offense keeps scoreboard ticking in win at Rugby

Polk County Middle scored early and often Monday, rolling to a 7-0 victory over Rugby Middle in Blue Ridge Conference soccer play in Mills River.

The Wolverines (4-2) got a pair of goals from Tanner Osborn in the first 15 minutes, then picked up another from Tommy Jackson to take a 3-0 lead at the half.

Blake Anderson scored on a pass from Wyatt Highsmith early in the second half, with Highsmith then scoring on an assist from Anderson. Anderson then assisted a Cooper Meyer goal before Luke Garrison closed the scoring with a goal off a pass from Oakley Whiteside.

Charlie Wagoner kept Rugby (0-6) at bay to record the shutout in goal.

“We did not do as much passing to adjust to the field, but we were very effective being more direct,” said Polk Middle head coach Lennox Charles. “We were able to get everyone on the field and they all did a good job.”

The Wolverines return to the pitch on Wednesday, traveling to Waynesville Middle.
