Matthew Jarrett sends a throw-in upfield during a recent Polk Middle match

Polk County Middle scored twice in both the first and second halves Monday to pick up a 4-0 victory in Blue Ridge Conference boys soccer action at Flat Rock.

The Wolverines improved to 5-1-1 with the win. Flat Rock dropped to 4-1.

Oakley Whiteside opened the scoring for Polk in the 10th minute, tapping in a loose ball following a Brennan Oates corner kick. Oates also set up the Wolverines’ second goal, hitting a cross that Owen Justice quickly struck into the net for the 2-0 halftime edge.

Whiteside struck again in the 35th minute, sticking home a rebound of a Wolverine shot to up the lead to 3-0.

Polk then capped its scoring in the 45th minute as Ross Dow won a footrace with the Flat Rock goalkeeper to a loose ball well outside the goal area. Dow fired the ball into the net as the keeper scrambled to get back to the goal.

Polk goalkeeper Jackson Blotner finished with four saves.

The Wolverines are back on the road Wednesday, traveling to Brevard Middle for a 4:30 p.m. match.
