Polk County’s JV boys soccer squad came within two minutes of completing a second-half comeback Monday before East Rutherford found a late equalizer, leaving the teams with a 3-3 draw at G.M. Tennant Stadium.
The Wolverines trailed 2-1 in the second half before scoring twice in a three-minute span to take the lead.
Foster Meyer pulled Polk even with 9:36 remaining. A long throw-in reached Asher Brooks, who redirected the ball to Meyer. He spun and drove a low left-footed shot into the net from about 12 yards out.

Brooks helped create the go-ahead goal less than three minutes later. Winning the ball near midfield, Brooks sent a pass forward to Alec Fine, who raced onto it, worked past two defenders and beat the East Rutherford goalkeeper with a low shot in a one-on-one situation for a 3-2 Polk advantage with 6:47 remaining.
East Rutherford, though, answered with 1:53 left to salvage the draw.
Polk County had taken the initial lead on a long strike from Axel Ramirez. Collecting a loose ball on the left wing, Ramirez saw the East Rutherford goalkeeper off his line and connected from more than 25 yards out for the opening goal.
East Rutherford converted a corner kick with 8:32 remaining in the first half to send the match into halftime tied at 1-1, then scored again after the break to take its 2-1 lead.
The draw moved Polk County to 0-1-1 on the season. The Wolverines are scheduled to return to action Aug. 24 at East Henderson.
