Polk County freshman Cole Pereira scored the winning goal in the Wolverines’ 3-2 victory at Chase.

Freshman Cole Pereira made his varsity goal a memorable one, scoring the game-winner Wednesday for Polk County in a 3-2 victory at Chase.

Pereira tallied with some 12 minutes left on an assist from Isaac Edwards to help Polk County improve to 4-1 on the season. The Wolverines return home Thursday to face Crest, with junior varsity play beginning at 5 p.m.

Chase scored first, but Polk County responded late in the first half with an Edwards goal following a pass from Cameron Greve. The Wolverines then took a 2-1 lead just before the half as Matias Akers tallied off an Edwards assist.

Chase evened the score at 2-2 in the second half before Pereira’s winner.
