Topher Pearson’s overtime goal lifted Polk County Middle to a 2-1 win Wednesday at Brevard in a key Blue Ridge Conference game.
The Wolverines improved to 8-3 with the win and put themselves in solid position for a postseason berth. Polk Middle closes its regular season on Monday at home against Rugby.
The Blue Devils took an early 1-0 lead, but Polk Middle answered as Pearson scored off an Eno Baker corner kick that Keaundrae Green directed on goal.
The teams remained deadlocked the rest of regulation and through the first five-minute overtime period. With less than two minutes remaining in the second overtime, Pearson took a free kick from some 30 yards out that sailed over the goalkeeper and into the net for the win.
