Overtime goal lifts Polk Middle to victory in Hendersonville

A back-and-forth battle with Hendersonville Middle on Wednesday finally tipped in Polk County Middle’s favor, the Wolverines earning a 3-2 overtime victory in boys soccer action in Hendersonville.

Polk Middle (4-1-1, 2-0) took a 1-0 lead in the first half on a Ross Dow goal. The Wolverines had a couple of other good scoring chances in the half but weren’t able to convert.

Hendersonville (0-3, 0-2) took charge early in the second half and took a 2-1 advantage. But with time ticking away late in regulation, Dow played a pass ahead of the Bearcat defense that Polk’s Luke Garrison reached first, then hita low drive into the net to equalize the score.

Neither team scored in the first overtime period. The Wolverines were finally able to break through in the second, with Dow firing a long drive from 20-plus yards that found the top right corner of the goal for the game-winner.

Jackson Blotner had four saves for Polk Middle.
