Polk County Middle’s boys soccer squad snapped a two-game losing streak, thumping Waynesvlle Middle 4-1 in a Blue Ridge Middle School Conference match on Monday in Waynesville.
The Wolverines improved to 5-2 with the victory.
“As a team we played much better then the previous two games,” said Polk County head coach Travis Aldred. “We actually finished our good chances, and if we can do that in every game, we will end the season strong.”
The Wolverines return to action on Wednesday, traveling to Brevard for a 4:30 p.m. match.
A talented Waynesville squad swept the Wolverines with a 25-21, 27-25 victory.
Waynesville also won the fifth quarter game, taking a 25-23 win.
“Waynesville is a solid squad, one of the best we’ve seen this year,” said Polk Middle head coach Matthew Russell. “They had great setters and were very fundamentally sound.
“We made too many mistakes and couldn’t finish when we had opportunities to close. A major focus for us in practice this week will be consistency. We play Brevard this Wednesday and we hope to get some positive momentum going before our game against Rugby next Monday.”
