Hendersonville Middle capped an unblemished regular season Wednesday, defeating Polk County Middle 2-1 in the Blue Ridge Conference regular season finale for both squads.

The Bearcats improved to 12-0 on the year with the victory, while Polk County closed its regular season at 7-4-2. Both teams now await the announcement of pairings for the BRC postseason tournament.

Hendersonville dictated play from the opening whistle, controlling possession and applying consistent pressure in the attacking third. The visitors broke through in the 12th minute when they converted a shot from the top of the box to take an early 1-0 advantage.

The Bearcats doubled their lead in the 26th minute after Polk County goalkeeper Jasper Mathews made an initial save on a free kick, but Hendersonville put home the rebound to take a commanding 2-0 lead into halftime.

Polk County responded 10 minutes into the second half when Foster Meyer got behind the outside defender and drove into the box. Meyer played a low cross to the back post, where Quinn Schilling slid in to finish from a yard out in the 35th minute, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

The Wolverines applied pressure in search of an equalizer and created several quality scoring chances, but could not find the back of the net again. Polk County’s defense tightened after the break, keeping Hendersonville off the scoresheet for the remainder of the match.
