Polk County’s JV boys soccer team turned a two-goal halftime lead into a 5-1 nonconference victory over East Rutherford on Thursday at G.M. Tennant Stadium.
Joshua Jarrett put the Wolverines in front just more than two minutes into the match. Alec Fine played a ball from the center of the field toward the left wing, where Jarrett drove a shot into the right side of the net.
Polk doubled the advantage with 9:04 remaining in the first half. Asher Brooks sent a long ball toward the right side, finding Wells Highsmith in space. Highsmith centered to Fine, who drove a shot into the left side of the net for a 2-0 halftime lead.

The Wolverines then turned to their corner-kick attack after the break.
Ian Lewis served a corner with 30:37 remaining, and Axel Ramirez charged toward the back post and flicked the ball toward goal. A deflection carried it across to the opposite post, where Noah Gutierrez tapped it home for a 3-0 advantage.
Five minutes later, Lewis delivered another corner toward the back post. This time Ramirez raced onto the service, jumped and knocked the ball into the net with his left foot to make it 4-0.
East Rutherford broke through for its only goal before Polk added one final highlight in the closing seconds.
With five seconds remaining, defender Ryan Blomeley came forward to take a corner kick and curled the ball directly into the net for the final 5-1 margin.
Polk County is scheduled to return to action Wednesday, Sept. 23, at home against A.C. Reynolds.
