East Henderson JVs strike late to upend Polk County

1 min read

East Henderson’s junior varsity capitalized on a late rebound opportunity to secure a 2-1 victory over Polk County in non-conference soccer action Monday at G.M. Tennant Stadium, handing the Wolverines their first loss of the season.

The Eagles grabbed a 1-0 advantage in the first half and maintained that lead until after the break, when Polk County’s Tomas Santibanez provided the equalizer. Santibanez’s aggressive pursuit pressured the East Henderson goalkeeper into a mishandle, allowing the Wolverine striker to win the footrace to the loose ball and slot home the tying goal.

But East Henderson would have the final say. With 17:43 remaining in the match, Polk County goalkeeper Jackson Blotner made a sliding save, but the deflection fell perfectly for an Eagle attacker, who directed the rebound into the unprotected net for what proved to be the winning goal.
