Butts scores hat trick to lead Polk junior varsity to win

Elijah Butts notched a hat trick Monday to lead Polk County’s junior varsity to a 4-3 win over East Henderson in a non-conference boys soccer match in G.M. Tennant Stadium.

Butts and Clark Phipps each scored in the first half to give Polk County (1-1) a 2-0 advantage. Butts added his second goal later in the period as the Wolverines grabbed a 3-1 lead at halftime.

East Henderson sliced the deficit to one before Butts scored what proved to be the winning goal with 11:11 remaining.

Polk County is scheduled to be back in action on Wednesday, traveling to Hendersonville for a 5 p.m. match.
