Brevard Middle threw a wrench into Polk Middle’s postseason plans on Wednesday, upsetting the Wolverines 4-3 in a Blue Ridge Conference boys soccer match in Brevard.

The loss left the Wolverines (6-5) tied with Apple Valley and Flat Rock for second place in the BRC East Division. Apple Valley and Flat Rock face off Monday while Polk Middle hosts Rugby, currently in last place in the East.

Polk Middle forced a 1-1 tie at halftime on a Tallis Metcalf penalty kick. The Blue Devils, though, scored three straight goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half to grab a 4-1 advantage.

The Wolverines cut the margin to two on a Tanner Osborn goal, converting a corner kick from Blake Anderson, and then to 4-3 as Cooper Meyer drove into the Blue Devil end of the field and delivered a shot into the back of the net.

But that would be it for Polk Middle’s scoring for the day as Brevard (4-7) held on for the win.
