Wolverines stage second-half comeback to upend Knights

1 min read

It took Polk Middle a while Thursday to get its offense untracked.

Once the Wolverines found their footing, though, they raced past Apple Valley and recorded a 40-31 victory in a Blue Ridge Conference clash in Hendersonville.

The Knights (3-6) opened an early 9-2 advantage and clung to a 17-11 edge at halftime. But the Wolverines (4-4) erased that deficit and then some in the final two quarters.

“We definitely did not play well after a month-long break, but we did not panic at all during the game,” said Polk Middle head coach Brad Muse.

“The momentum changed quickly in the second half, and RJ (Simpson) and Hollis (Williams) got hot and sealed the game for us in the fourth quarter. Hopefully we can build on this and position us for a good spot in the playoffs.”

Williams finished with 13 points and Simpson added 12. Jackson Blotner and Kayden Pressley each added six points while Brennan Oates finished with three.

Polk Middle will travel Monday to face undefeated Brevard Middle.
