Wolverines close regular season with OT loss at Avery

Polk County suffered a heartbreaking 63-59 overtime loss Tuesday at Avery in a Western Highlands Conference boys basketball matchup.

The Vikings (5-17, 1-9) held the Wolverines (6-17, 2-8) to two points in the overtime period to secure the win.

Bryson Edwards had a career-high 25 points for Polk County, adding four steals. Keyandre Thomas had 14 points and six rebounds, with Dominique Carson adding eight points and five assists.

Tyler Staley had six points, with Shaq Wingo, Wesley Royster and Brett Bagwell each scoring two. Bagwell grabbed nine rebounds for the Wolverines.

Polk County finishes the season in fifth place in the WHC. Official pairings for the conference tournament will be set Thursday, but the Wolverines are expected to travel to Owen for a first-round game on Friday.
