Wolverines can’t escape early deficit, fall to Eagles

Polk County Middle rallied twice from double-digit deficits Monday but couldn’t complete the comeback in a 37-23 Blue Ridge Conference boys basketball loss to Flat Rock Middle.

Down 15-3 in the second quarter, the Wolverines closed to within eight points. Owen Justice scored on a layup and Peyton Waters hit a short jumper with 2:05 left in the quarter to make it 15-7, but Flat Rock (2-8) answered with a 5-0 run to close the period.

Polk County Middle (1-11) trimmed the lead to eight again in the fourth quarter before the Eagles pulled away to secure the win.

Ross Adams led Flat Rock with 14 points.

Owen Justice and Peyton Waters each led Polk Middle with eight points. Austin Love and Carter Cash each added four, and Mason Proctor scored two.

Polk County Middle travels to Rugby Middle on Thursday.
