Brody Wilkins had 16 points to help lead Polk Middle to its third straight win

Brody Wilkins battled illness all week, and Flat Rock no doubt wishes his recovery had taken at least another day.

Wilkins scored 16 points Thursday as Polk County Middle captured its third straight win, picking up a 40-35 victory at Flat Rock in Blue Ridge Conference boys basketball action.

Wilkins had six points in the fourth quarter and Luke Garrison had four of his eight points as the Wolverines pulled away down the stretch to improve to 3-2 overall.

“Brody Wilkins stepped up big,” said Polk Middle head coach Brad Muse. “We were concerned that Brody might not make it after being sick earlier this week. It was not our best game, but they found a way to pull it out.”

Hollis Williams added seven points for Polk, with Keyan Simpson scoring four, Dallas Littlejohn adding three and Nate Fagan scoring two.

The Wolverines overcame an incredible effort from Flat Rock’s Jaylin Brewer, who scored 29 of the team’s 35 points.

Polk Middle will travel Monday to face Brevard Middle in a battle of BRC East Division leaders.
