Wheeler scores 1,000th career point in season opener

1 min read

Polk County senior Jamal Wheeler scored his 1,000th career point Tuesday in the Wolverines’ 48-39 loss to East Henderson.

Wheeler reached the milestone with the type of play that has typified his career, turning a steal into a layup while drawing a foul. Wheeler’s free throw at the 6:04 mark of the first quarter completed the three-point play and gave Wheeler his milestone point.

Wheeler was presented with a commemorative ball during a brief ceremony. He joins Polk County girls player Hayley Kropp as active 1,000-point scorers. Kropp reached the mark during the playoffs last season.
