Mackus Simpson’s 20 points led three Polk County players in double figures Wednesday as the Wolverine junior varsity downed Madison, 52-38, in a home Western Highlands Conference matchup.
Simpson hit four 3-pointers in his season-high effort, which was backed by 14 points from Antonio Simpson and 10 points from Lawson Carter.
Polk County (3-0, 2-0) held a narrow 9-7 lead at the end of the first period, but held Madison to just 13 points over the next two quarters and built a 39-20 lead entering the fourth period. The margin topped 20 points in the fourth period before Madison rallied late for the final margin.
William Simpson added four points, with Wayne Carson scoring three and Avery Harden adding a point.
Polk County is set to return to action on Friday, traveling to Avery for another WHC clash.
