A hot-shooting East Rutherford squad built a 25-point halftime lead Friday en route to a 79-52 victory over Polk County in Mountain Foothills 7 Conference boys basketball action in Bostic.

The Cavaliers (10-8, 5-1) hit five 3-pointers in the first quarter in building a 22-13 lead at the end of the period. East then raced to a 25-point outburst in the second quarter, building a 47-22 lead at intermission.

Polk County (3-13, 1-4) played without second-leading scorer Aaron Jackson, sidelined by illness.

Gunnar Alm led Polk County with 24 points, with Lawson Carter adding seven. Khalil Austin scored five, with Avery Harden and Khristian Littlejohn each scoring four and Nolan Simpson finishing with three.

East’s Dacen “Pop” Petty, the MF7’s leading scorer, had 13 first-quarter points and finished with 20 points to pace the Cavaliers.

The Wolverines continue their conference schedule on Tuesday, traveling to Brevard.
