Apple Valley Middle broke open a close game Wednesday with a decisive second-quarter run to defeat Polk County Middle 55-33 in a Blue Ridge Conference clash at Polk.
The Knights (2-2) jumped out early behind 3-pointers from Emory Blanton and Jacob York, plus a three-point play by Zade Burrell, building a 9-0 advantage to start the game. Polk Middle (0-4) responded well in the first quarter, with Matthew Sokil scoring six points as the Wolverines cut the deficit to 14-10 by the end of the period.
The Wolverines continued to battle in the second quarter, pulling within 24-17 when Mason Proctor connected on two free throws with 3:18 remaining in the half. Apple Valley answered with a 9-0 run to take control at 33-17 heading into the break.

The Knights pushed the lead to 20 points in the third period and kept the lead in that neighborhood for the rest of the evening.
Owen Justice and Austin Love led Polk County Middle’s scoring effort with seven points each. Sokil, who was injured in the second quarter and didn’t return, added six points while Carter Cash contributed five. Proctor finished with four points, Levi Dill scored three and Ryland Waters added one point in the loss.
The Wolverines will look to earn their first win of the season when they travel Thursday to face Flat Rock Middle.
