Rugby Middle built a nine-point halftime lead Monday and kept Polk County Middle at bay en route to a 44-31 victory in Blue Ridge Conference boys basketball action in Mills River.
The Raiders opened a 24-15 lead at intermission as the Wolverines (2-1) battled early foul trouble. Polk fought to pull even with Rugby in the second half, but could never quite draaw even.
“We had a good effort but just came up short,” said Polk Middle head coach Brad Muse. “Every time we got close, Rugby seemed to hit a 3-pointer and stretch out the lead.
