R-S Central used a decisive third-quarter run to secure a 59-49 victory over Polk County in Mountain Foothills 7 Conference junior varsity boys basketball action Friday at Polk.
The Wolverines stayed within striking distance for much of the game, trailing just 30-22 midway through the third period, before the Hilltoppers seized control with 10 unanswered points to build a commanding lead.
Polk County mounted a comeback effort, sparked by Tae Gary’s basket with 2:24 remaining in the third quarter. That score initiated a 10-2 run by the Wolverines, cutting the deficit to 42-34 entering the final period. Despite their efforts, Polk could get no closer than eight points in the fourth quarter.

Luke Garrison led the Wolverines’ offense with 17 points, while Nate Fagan contributed 10. Kamron Cunningham, Keyan Simpson and Tae Gary each added six points, with Dre Thompson chipping in four.
The loss drops Polk County to 0-15 on the season. The Wolverines will conclude their regular-season home schedule Friday when they host Chase.
