Polk County Middle School’s girls and boys basketball squads wrapped up their pre-Christmas schedule on Monday, each coasting to victories over Flat Rock in Blue Ridge Middle School Conference action at Polk County Middle.
The Polk girls captured a 30-9 win while the boys earned a 43-11 victory. Both squads are now 6-0.
With Thursday’s game at Bethel Middle School rescheduled for January 7, both teams will be idle until Monday, Jan. 6, when the two teams will travel to Brevard.

GIRLS
Leading by six at halftime, the Wolverines exploded for a 22-6 lead at the end of the third period and were never challenged the remainder of the way.
Maranda Gosnell and Autumn Owen each scored 12 points for Polk, who came into the game off a 30-29 win at Hendersonville Middle on Thursday. Owen scored 13 while Gosnell and Ansley Lynch each had seven points in that win.

BOYS
Polk County roared to a 14-2 lead at the end of the first quarter, then expanded the lad to 28-6 at halftime en route to an easy win.
The Wolverines held Flat Rock to just five second-half points, including a scoreless fourth quarter.
Arnie Twitty scored 10 points to lead a balanced Polk County attack.
The Wolverines also won Thursday at Hendersonville, earning a 54-44 victory. Twitty had 22 points and Holden Owens had 14 in that win.
