Polk County Middle pulled away in the fourth quarter Thursday to score a 44-32 victory at Waynesville Middle in a Blue Ridge Conference boys basketball battle.
The two teams entered the final period tied at 25-25, but the Wolverines (3-4) clamped down on the Mountaineer offense while shifting their scoring production up a notch to secure their third straight victory entering the holiday break.
“The guys played an awesome game,” said Polk Middle head coach Brad Muse. “They clamped down on defense in the second half and kept their composure in a very loud and spirited gymnasium.
“We are still growing and we are going to try hard to keep this momentum up over the Christmas break.”
Aaron Jackson led Polk Middle with 11 points, with Avery Hensley and Piercen Edwards each scoring 10. Lorenzo Sanchez had all seven of his points in the fourth quarter and Nolan Simpson added six points.
The Wolverines will return to the court on Jan. 6, hosting Apple Valley.
