PCMS boys hoops roundup: Rough quarter sinks Wolverines at Brevard

A rough third quarter Monday spoiled Polk County Middle’s hopes for a road win at Brevard Middle.

The Blue Devils put together an 18-0 run in the third period to take command of the game en route to a 35-23 victory over the Wolverines in a Blue Ridge Conference East Division matchup.

The Wolverines (0-6) trailed by five at the half before Brevard’s Cam White and Akai Agnapon led the third-quarter rally. Agnapon finished with 13 points and White had 11 to lead the Blue Devils.

Brennan Oates scored eight points to pace Polk Middle, with Brody Wilkins adding four points. David Duffy, Gage Harden, Dallas Littlejohn, Nate Fagan and Hollis Williams each added two points while Luke Garrison scored one.

Polk Middle returns home Thursday to face Rugby Middle in the Wolverines’ final game before the holiday break.

FLAT ROCK 28, POLK MIDDLE 26: The Wolverines were denied a road win on Thursday as Flat Rock squeaked out a 28-26 victory.

Polk Middle had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds, but a potential basket to force overtime came up just short.

Keyan Simpson had seven points to lead the Wolverines, with Duffy scoring six. Littlejohn added five, with Fagan and Garrison each scoring three and Harden adding two.

Fagan had five points to lead Polk Middle, with Harden scoring four. Garrison, Simpson and Sam Rhein each added two while Littlejohn and Wilkins each scored one.
