It was a less-than-ideal start to Mountain Foothills 7 Conference play Friday for Polk County.
Patton scored the game’s first 25 points, holding the Wolverines scoreless until the second quarter en route to a 64-24 victory in the MF7 debut for both teams in Morganton.
Patton, considered by many as the favorite in the conference race, improved to 8-1 overall. Polk County dropped to 1-5.
Aaron Jackson’s free throw early in the second period provided the first tally of the evening for Polk. Patton responded with a quick 5-0 run to take a 30-1 lead and led 41-10 at halftime.
Gunnar Alm led Polk County with nine points, with Lawson Carter scoring six. Avery Harden had four points, with Aaron Jackson finishing with three and Wayne Carson adding two.
Polk County will travel Monday to Landrum for a non-conference battle.
