Patton spoils league debut for Polk boys

Patton raced to a 21-point halftime lead Friday and spoiled Polk County’s Mountain Foothills 7 Conference debut in an 81-48 boys basketball victory in Morganton.

The Panthers (7-2, 1-0) built a 45-24 advantage by the break as Polk County (4-1, 0-1) had to cope with foul trouble for starters Dominique Carson and Antonio Simpson.

Carson hit four 3-pointers and finished with 20 points to pace Polk County, with Simpson and Kris Littlejohn each adding eight.

Kanye Staley had four points, Brandon West added three and Wayne Carson and Vincent Twitty each finished with two points for the Wolverines.

Isaiah Spears added a point for Polk County, which travels Monday to Rosman before returning home Tuesday for an MF7 matchup with Hendersonville.
