Dominique Carson scored 25 points Thursday to lead Polk County Middle School to its first win of the season, a 42-28 victory over Flat Rock Middle in boys basketball action in Flat Rock.
Carson’s big game helped the Wolverines improve to 1-5 entering the Christmas break. Flat Rock dropped to 0-6.
Nate Henderson, Shane Parris and Tyler Staley each had five points and Dakota Twitty had two points for the Wolverines, who will return to the court on Jan. 3, hosting Bethel Middle School.

DEFENSE CARRIES POLK GIRLS: Polk County Middle’s girls delivered another strong defensive effort in a 48-28 win at Flat Rock.
Holding the Eagles (3-3) almost 10 points below their average, the Wolverines (5-1) turned a three-point halftime lead into a runaway, outscoring Flat Rock 29-12 in the final two quarters.
Olivia Overholt had 14 points to lead Polk Middle, with Sara Muse scoring 10 and Kristen Hall just missing a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds. Julia Griffin had six points, Emmie McDowell had five points and Kaylin Jenkins and Emily Prince each added two.
WOLVERINE WRESTLERS FALL: Undefeated Flat Rock Middle maintained its lead in the Blue Ridge Middle School Conference’s East Division with a 96-6 victory at Polk Middle.
Jacob Knighton led Polk Middle, dominating his match at 113 points before winning by pin in the third period.
Polk County Middle travels to Bethel on Monday at face the Blue Demons in their final match before the holiday break.
