Canton Middle School brought an early, unexpected end to Polk County Middle’s girls basketball season on Monday, upsetting the Wolverines 31-22 in opening-round action of the Blue Ridge Middle School Conference tournament at Polk County.
The loss ends Polk County’s season at 11-2. Canton, the fourth seed from the East Division, improves to 5-8 and advances to Wednesday’s semifinal.
In boys action, Polk Middle improved to 13-0 with a 66-38 rout of Madison Middle School.

The Wolverines scored 21 of the final 23 points of the game to earn a semifinal berth on Wednesday against Macon, the second seed for the East Division. That game will be Wednesday at 4:30 at Polk County.
