
Macon Middle used a 15-2 run in the third quarter Monday to take command of its season opener at Polk Middle and hand the Wolverines a 48-32 loss in Blue Ridge Conference boys basketball action.
The Wolverines (0-1) trailed 15-11 at the half, but opened the third period with an Avery Hensley 3-pointer to cut the Panthers’ lead to one.
Macon, though, began to dominate the boards and scored the next 11 points, with Conner Baldwin drilling two 3-pointers in the run. The Panthers then followed an Aaron Jackson basket for Polk with five more points to take a 31-16 advantage with 2:39 left in the quarter.
Macon kept the lead in double digits the remainder of the game.
Hensley had 11 points, with Jackson scoring eight and Nolan Simpson adding five.
Sawyer Huff, Brody Wilkins, Dallas Littlejohn and Gage Harden each scored two points for Polk Middle, which is back in action on Nov. 30 at Apple Valley Middle.
