Flat Rock pulled away late Monday to push past Polk County Middle 52-37 in a Blue Ridge Conference boys basketball battle at Polk.
The Eagles (2-0) inched ahead 10-8 at the end of the first quarter and led just 16-15 midway through the second after Polk County’s Eno Baker drilled a 3-pointer before scoring the final four points of the period for a 20-15 lead at the break.
The lead stood at six, 26-20, midway through the third period before Flat Rock’s defensive pressure began to take a toll on Polk Middle (1-2). The Eagles closed the quarter with a 12-3 run, grabbing a 38-23 advantage at the end of the quarter, and kept the lead in double digits the rest of the evening.
Gunnar Alm led Polk Middle with 13 points, nine of those in the fourth quarter, with Karlan McEntyre scoring 12. Baker finished with five points, with Avery Hensley scoring three and Karson Scruggs and Banks Barber each scoring two.
Polk Middle is set to travel to Brevard Middle on Thursday for another BRC East Division clash.
