Polk County's Karlen McEntyre had three points in Thursday's loss

Landrum pulled away from Polk County in the second half Thursday to claim a 52-35 victory over the Wolverines in boys junior varsity basketball action at Polk.

The Wolverines dropped to 1-5 with the loss. Landrum improved to 6-3.

How it happened: The teams were tied 11-11 early in the second quarter when Landrum fashioned a 10-0 run. Jonathan Collier’s free throw at the 3:45 mark stopped that surge, but the Cardinals still led 31-19 at the half.

Polk opened the third period with fast-break baskets by Lorenzo Sanchez and Avery Hensley to pull within eight, but the Cards answered with six straight points for a 37-23 advantage.

Polk again got the deficit down to single digits at 40-31, but a 12-0 Landrum rally put the margin out of reach.

Scoring: Sanchez led Polk with 13 points, with Hensley adding eight. Collier and Khristian Littlejohn each had four points, with Karlen McEntyre scoring three.

Nolan Simpson had two points and Khalil Austin added one.

Next up: Polk County opens Mountain Foothills 7 Conference play on Friday, hosting Patton. That game will tip off at 5 p.m. and will also air live on NFHS Network.
