Polk County seniors Jamal Wheeler and Hayley Kropp have been named to the all-Western North Carolina basketball team by the Asheville Citizen-Times.
Wheeler and Kropp joined a handful of other WNC players to earn first-team selections. Hayesville’s Zach Cottrell and Pisgah’s Brooklyn Allen were named the WNC players of the year.
The Western Highlands Conference player of the year, Wheeler led WNC in scoring at 21.4 points per game. He also grabbed 4.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.1 steals per game.

Kropp also was named the WHC player of the year and also led WNC in scoring at 26.3 points per game. Kropp also grabbed 12.2 rebounds per game and averaged 5.3 steals and 3.0 assists per game. She finished her career as Polk County’s all-time leading scorer.
Teammates Wes Mullis and Autumn Owen earned honorable mention nods.
