East Rutherford built an early lead and kept it Friday, handing Polk County’s junior varsity boys a 58-33 setback in Mountain Foothills 7 Conference basketball action at Polk.
The Wolverines dropped to 3-9 with the loss. East Rutherford improved to 4-7.
How it happened: The Cavaliers scored 12 of the game’s first 17 points and held a 12-5 lead at the end of the first period.

Polk County closed within five early in the second quarter and trailed just 20-16 with 1:06 left in the period following two Khalil Austin free throws.
But East pushed its lead back to 25-16 at the half, and the Wolverines got no closer than seven points in the final two quarters.
Scoring: Lorenzo Sanchez scored eight points to pace Polk County, with Nolan Simpson scoring six and Chase Stansbury scoring five.
Cooper Rhodes and Jonathan Collier each scored four, with Austin and Khristian Littlejohn each finishing with three points.
Next up: Polk County will host Brevard on Tuesday in another MF7 matchup.
