East Henderson opened with a 10-0 run Thursday and never trailed, handing Polk County a 61-40 setback in junior varsity boys basketball action at Polk.
The Eagles (1-1) kept the Wolverines (0-2) scoreless until the 2:59 mark of the first quarter, when Luke Garrison connected on a free throw. Polk cut the deficit to eight at quarter’s end and kept it at single digits much of the second period before East took a 22-12 lead at the half.
The Eagles then opened the third quarter with a 15-6 run, taking command of the game with a 35-18 lead and keeping the Wolverines at bay the rest of the evening.

Kamron Cunningham led Polk County with 10 points, with Keyan Simpson adding nine. Garrison finished with seven points,with Tae Gary scoring six.
Nate Fagan added three points, with Wyatt Highsmith and Nathaniel Harms each scoring two.
Polk County will travel Tuesday to Madison for a non-conference game, set to tip off at 4:30 p.m.
