Polk County Middle's Lorenzo Sanchez looks to score during a recent game

A defensive battle tipped Polk County Middle’s win on Thursday, the Wolverines slipping past Brevard Middle 22-20 in a Blue Ridge Conference boys basketball game at Polk.

The Wolverines picked up their first win of the season and also the first for head coach Brad Muse. Polk Middle is now 1-4 ahead of Monday’s game at Rugby.

“We had a great defensive effort tonight,” Muse said. “The guys have really worked hard and put in the effort tonight to get the win

“I’m proud of them but we still have a lot of growing to do to try to finish strong before the break.”

Avery Hensley had 12 points to lead Polk Middle, with Aaron Jackson adding eight. Lorenzo Sanchez and Piercen Edwards each added a point.

The game was close throughout, with the Wolverines holding a 5-4 lead at the half.
