Cavaliers pull away to spoil Wolverines’ season opener

East Rutherford pulled away in the second quarter and never looked back, defeating Polk County 75-34 in Monday’s season opener for both teams.

The Wolverines trailed 16-13 early in the second quarter behind seven first-quarter points from Aaron Jackson. But the Cavaliers closed the first half with an 18-4 run to take a 34-17 lead into halftime, then outscored Polk County 27-3 in the third quarter to put the game away.

Micah King led East Rutherford (1-0) with 17 points.

Jackson paced Polk County (0-1) with 12 points. Khristian Littlejohn added nine, Nate Fagan scored eight and Harris Windsor finished with five.

Polk County hosts Chase on Thursday in a non-conference game.
