Mountain Heritage capped a perfect run through the Western Highlands Conference on Tuesday with a 91-51 win over Polk County in boys basketball action in Bakersville.

The Cougars completed the season with a 17-2 record, including a 10-0 conference mark. Polk County ends its regular season at 2-20, 1-9.

Clark Phipps had 15 points for Polk County, with Dominique Carson adding 14. Amir Gary had eight points, with Chan Barber scoring five and Tyler Staley adding three.

Nate Henderson, Zeke Herrmann and Keyandre Thomas each had two points.

Polk County begins play Friday in the WHC postseason tournament, traveling to Mitchell for a first-round game.

COUGAR JV BOYS WIN: Mountain Heritage built a 15-point halftime lead and handed Polk County’s junior varsity boys a 60-33 defeat in the Wolverines’ regular-season finale in Bakersville.

Polk County ended its season with a 9-12 record.

Shaq Wingo scored 11 points to lead Polk, which trailed 32-17 at the break. Kanye Staley had six points and four rebounds, with Ben Hardin, Brandon West and Davin Hines also each scoring four points.

Nate Mann, Bryson Edwards and Brett Bagwell each finished with two points, with Edwards also grabbing five rebounds.
